Blue jeans have been a part of American culture for decades with Levi's being the leader.
Designer jeans have come and gone like Jordache jeans and Calvin Klein jeans. For a while ripped or torn jeans were the latest fad and now stretch jeans and loose fit or baggy jeans are popular. It used to be that all jeans were tight fitting and brands like Guess jeans were form fitting and showed of womens butts. Jeans are still considered sexy in the eyes of many, but with the skinny jeans and relaxed fit styles more people are wearing them for comfort than anything else. Of course you always have the latest jeans that teenage girls try to fit into and those fashions will probably never go away as the younger crowds chase looks that are popular. Joes jeans,
Seven jeans, or Lucky jeans are just a few of the current brands that dominate the market and are sold at stores like Abercrombie where the young generation does their shopping. We went to popular clothing stores at the mall and visited online jean retailers to see just what people are buying and for how much. See the results below.
When I was growing up the top jeans to wear were Levi 501's and 505's. We went to Denimexpress.com online to find the most popular styles and
brands of jeans. They carry all the latest releases from Levi's, Calvin Klein, Silver Jeans, Polo, Wrangler, and Lee. The styles vary from regular fit, relaxed fit, boot cut, carpenter jeans, straight legs, painter, side elastic, easy fit, cowboy cut, and flare cut. Each brand offers something a little different for various age groups. Wrangler
jeans have always sold well to "country" folk while jeans from the Gap or Eddie Bauer do well in cities. Oprah Winfrey has had jean expert Stacy London on and she recommends jeans for various sized and shaped women. Here are her favorites for the different types of women. Tall women should buy brands like
Rock & Republic, Notify and Habitual. Petite women should buy jeans from Banana Republic, Kasil, Jag, and Caslon. For women with tummy troubles go with Seven jeans, Citizens of Humanity, Gold Sign, Gap, CK, or Paige Premium. Women with large hips should buy mid-rise jeans with trouser or straight leg cuts - the brands to select from include Cambio, Lucky, Tahari, Marc, AG, Diesel, and Joe's Jeans. If you have a larger rear end, go with brands like James, Earnest Sewn, and Citizens of Humanity. For a flat butt, try
True Religion jeans, Joe's Jeans, or Hudson jeans. When shopping online, try sites like Denimsecrets.com with their best selling jeans being Joes Jeans Rocker With Distressed Cuffs ($109), Rock & Republic Victoria Beckham Yellow/Lime London Crown ($102),
Rock & Republic Roth Low Rise Rainbow Pocket Jeans ($109), Seven For All Mankind Dark Fiji Stud Jeans ($129). Another good site for womens jeans is at Thedenimbutt.com - they carry Antik Denim, Bebe, Blue Cult, Juicy Couture and Notify. As the parent of a daughter, I can only hope she doesn't get involved in high priced jeans and want to wear just the right clothing to fit in.

Designer Jeans:
For those of us that want to wear jeans with style and make a fashion statement about who we are, then finding the right pair(s) of designer jeans is crucial to your social standing. If you go online to a name brand retailer like Neimanmarcus.com you will have a wide selection of jeans to choose from. They carry all the top designer jean brands like Diesel, Replay, Armani, Dolce Gabbana, Dior, Fendi, Versace, and Ralph Lauren. Eluxury.com is another site that carries plenty of womens designer jeans, most run $100+. Jeans are the type of clothing item that should be tried on before buying, so purchasing a pair on the Internet can be a little risky if you want to return them. Make sure the return policy states you can send them back to the online store or return them in person at a regular store. Most women will tell you that the
designer jeans they have are mostly for fashion and not comfort. The real comfortable jeans you find are not made by high end designers but sold in everyday clothing stores. The Red Monkey jeans that originated in Japan are the latest designer jeans to hit the market and are so popular you will have a hard time finding a pair in the United States. We did see some listed on Ebay and they tend to sell for $100 or more.
Evisu jeans are another Japanese styled jeans made with selvage denim and found in stores like Nordstroms.
True Religion Jeans:
True Religion brand jeans was started in 2002 and is based in Los Angeles. They are the most popular type of jeans searched for on the Internet. True Religion jeans are marketed as high end denim jeans for men, women and kids. What would you pay for a pair of jeans $50, $60, or maybe $80. Well consider $250+ for True Religion jeans which claim to have the greatest attention to detail with "fashion forward seams... hand sanded vintage washes... and remarkable embroidery". The top selling womens jeans from True Religion are the Women's 'Billy' Stretch Denim - Dusty Road Dark ($216), Women's 'Bobby' Stretch Denim - Dark Pony Express ($172), Women's 'Joey' Stretch Big T - Dusty Road Dark ($262), the Women's 'Joey' Super T - Dusty Road Dark ($319), and the Women's 'Johnny' Stretch Denim - Urban Cowboy Dark ($216). The
mens jeans are no bargain either with many costing well over $200 for a pair. The most popular True Religion mens jeans are the Men's 'Joey' Natural Big T - Lonestar, Men's 'Billy' Big T - Dusty Trail, Men's 'Billy' Rigid - Mudwaters, and the Men's 'Billy' Big T - Gunmetal. The denim line fro True Religion also offers jackets, shirts, skirts, shorts, and crops. While I can understand paying a lot of money for quality clothing item, I can't fathom putting a $100 pair of jeans on my 6 year old that he/she will soon outgrow anyways. If you are so inclined and want to shovel out $100's to buy
True Religion jeans, check out their website at Truereligionbrandjeans.com.
